A salt deficiency mainly manifests itself by licking foreign objects (licking) and can lead to a lack of appetite, rough coat and decreased resistance.

The need for salt varies from horse to horse. Some horses will not need it and will therefore rarely use a salt lick. Other horses, on the other hand, do need extra salt to be in optimal condition.
